BY THE SEA, BY THE SEA, BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA

June 5, 2013

This morning we went back to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse area.  Not only does the area include the circa 1873 lighthouse, it is a nature conservation area with lots of sea birds nesting on the bluffs around the lighthouse (even bald eagles) .  It is incredibly windy on the point and it was foggy when we arrived, but cleared off before we left.  We spent a lot of time exploring the tide pools below the lighthouse.  There were star fish, mussels, anemone and other sea critters.

Alsea Bay Bridge
This is the view from the RV park where we're staying.  This is one of the many beautiful bridges we've crossed on the 101.  This bridge spans the Alsea Bay.  We walked across it today to the town on the other side for lunch.  On the sand bar beneath the bridge are hundreds of sea lions.  Since April to June is pupping season, there were lots of babies.  We stayed on the bridge quite a while and watched them.  Tomorrow we're going to the aquarium in Newport.
