THE GUIDING LIGHT

Today we drove the car north about 60 miles to visit one of the most iconic lighthouses on the west coast.  The Heceta Head lighthouse has recently undergone a renovation and will be re-lit for the first time in many years next weekend.  We also visited the Umpqua lighthouse which was built in the late 1800's and is still a functioning lighthouse operated by the US Coast Guard.

In addition to the beautiful Heceta Head lighthouse in the photo above, we also visited the Keeper's house located just a few hundred fee down a path from the lighthouse.  The keeper's house is now a bed and breakfast and for a "nominal" fee, you can stay there and wake up to one of the most stunning views imaginable.

Tomorrow we'll move our home on wheels north to Newport, Oregon.  We plan to stay there for a few days and explore the beaches, scenery and lighthouses in the area.
